CHILDREN OF THE GREAT LEADERS

by Zaheeruddin Babar

20th century's first half saw the emergence of great leaders, in regions where people were oppressed by European Imperial powers.  2nd World war had weakened the Imperial powers all around the world, and created an opportunity for these leaders to break the shackles of slavery and declare their independence. And many of them got succeeded.
Then these political leaders become Great Leaders or founding fathers for their people. This first generation of leaders was mostly humble and contented at whatever they had achieved and they tried to work whole heartedly to develop and strengthen their nations.
After them came the second generation of leaders who inherited the state or political legacy without any struggle. We can call them the CHILDREN OF THE GREAT LEADERS, this generation was the most AMBITIOUS GREEDY AND RUTHLESS GENERATION and they created an era which is called DECADE OF TURMOIL. They not only opposed the ideology of their predecessors but also set trends in politics which made the life of their people miserable.

The list of these Children is very long but we will discuss only one in an episode selected from a single region. Our first region is South Asia,
And first child in the list of “the children of great leaders” is Democratic Queen of India “Indira Gandhi”.

She inherited name “Gandhi” although she was daughter of Nehru. Other things she inherited were  her Father’s Political party, designation of that party, vote bank and of course the Seat of Prime minister.
She did nothing good for her people because she was simply not interested but she was very jealous from a country in her neighborhood, she just wanted to destroy it. She introduced the trend of interfering in the internal matters of the neighboring country and supported the anti-state elements that created political unrest and later started a civil war there.

In retaliation that neighbor started an open war with India. Hundreds and thousands of people died and many more faced the consequences of political unrest and war. She spent billions of rupees on buying weapons from Soviet Union and came in direct confrontation with USA and UK. This further deteriorated the economic situation of the country. She had also forgotten that her people were dependent on USA for feed.

Sooner her neighbor country followed the trend set by her and began to interfere in the internal matters of India, which resulted an uprising from the Sikh Community. And in the end she was killed by the firing of her own Sikh bodyguards.
